My Christmas And New Year Message...
For a change, I'd thought I'd share with you a little motivational (and hopefully inspirational!) message for Christmas and New Year...
Around this time of year many people start to look at making work what doesn't (getting along with family that they usually don't get along with, or try to get past Christmas without an argument!) - and, as Christmas turns into New Year - start to look at putting 'right' what is 'wrong' in their life (their New Year resolutions)
Boy, is that the WRONG way of going about things!
We've been trained to believe that this time of year is for giving...and then for turning our lives around. Yet - why should you try to fit all this into two days that fall within a week of each other?
Sure - every now and again, you might actually not feel awkward listening your old grandma going on about the same thing for the 100th time, or you DO actually follow through on your resolution to quit smoking or eat less chocolate.
Yet - come the middle of January, when you're desperately waiting for your paycheck to pay for your Christmas spending - the last thing you really want to do is to go through more 'pain' - the pain of changing the person you've been all year last year!
Goal setting as a motivational tool is dangerous - as having a 'goal' implies that when you reach it - you will 'score' (ie win). Yet - the most successful people will tell you that, unless you're actually enjoying the challenge of the journey towards the goal - then you might as well not bother - as THAT is what you should be aiming for!
For a start, it's so much easier to do something better that you already do well.
And secondly, because you can ALREADY do it - then you won't have to go through the pain of trying to be someone you haven't been for years!
Of course, I'm certainly not suggesting that you don't aim high...but let's face it - you've probably tried it enough times and 'failed' - so why make an attempt at something that you actually stand a chance of succeeding at?
You don't need to invest in any fancy goal setting software, or buy this year's latest goal setting ebook. You KNOW what you're good at - so just bloody well get on and get even better at it!
Happy Christmas...and a happy, healthy, and wealthy New Year!
