Inspiration In The Most Unlikely Of Places...

Since my seperation, I've rediscovered my love for movies. Except that now, instead of just watching them for what they are, I tend to look at the general message behind them.

Of course, there are the fairly generic ones like the hero survives, gets the girl, or generally succeeds at the end. After all, some of the most successful movies show us how 'good' always triumphs over 'evil' and all that stuff.

What's interesting for me is that bad news sells newspapers, yet happy endings sell movies! Perhaps it's because people want an escape from the 'bad news reality' - although personally I'm focusing my life on aiming for 'happy endings' wherever I can - despite whatever my circumstances may be.

And so should YOU too!

There's another thing I like to pick up on when I watch a movie. It's the little sentences of dialogue that actually MEAN something. The fascinating these 'pearls of wisdom' are...quite often, in the most unlikely of movies! Some of the most interesting ones actually came from films that didn't exactly fit in the 'everyone wins' category.

For example, here are just a couple of such quotes...

From Mr Magorium's Wonderful Emporium - "Your life is an occasion. Rise to it"
(Uttered by Mr Magorium just as he's about to die)

From Flashbacks of a Fool - "He lived his life in the present moment, just like a child. That's so rare in a man."
(Said by the wife of a man who suddenly died young)

There are certainly more that I picked up on at the time that I can't remember at the moment.

I can guarantee that practically every other person in the auditorium watching these movies NEVER pick up on these nuggets of wisdom.

If they did, I bet that they didn't take it out of the context of the story and realize that where their life is actually concerned - these quotes are seriously powerful!

I'm certainly trying wherever possible to move my life around to 'rise to it'...and I can certainly tell you that the more YOU live (and enjoy) the 'present moment' then the better and more rewarding your life will be.

Sometimes inspiration comes from the most unlikely of places - and hidden in movies where you least expect it!

O-KAY then, I'm not even gonna condescend to comment on the first guy above. You can just imagine how great HIS life is and what a wonderful person he is to be around. Ahem... I have noticed gems of wisdom in movie dialogue myself, & I've heard FEW "success teachers" talk about that. The 2 that come to mind on reading this, though neither are very warm & fuzzy, are 1) from the movie Gladiator, “In the end, we’re all dead men. Sadly, we cannot choose how, or when. But what we can choose is how we decide to meet that end, so we are remembered forever as men.” 2) The character Bill's monologue in Kill Bill 2 just before the final fight; it's kinda long, didn't remember the words exactly, so I just googled (yes it's a word) it and lo & behold someone wrote it out on a Wikiquote page at http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Kill_Bill:_Volume_2 . Check it. Well that's all from me. Peace

Hi Gary, You're right that great movies have really good messages in them. It's a shame that more people don't see them. I think that the universe speaks to us through unlikely sources. We only see what we look for. Ed Anderson www.edcanderson.com www.masteringyourquest.com

That first message, Gary, is meant to hurt. Why didn't you just acknowledge the hurt for yourself and the moron that wrote it, and then delete it before it got to our eyes? The other day I attended my third session before deciding to join a Toastmasters club. This guy - who seemed to be an officer - decided to to make a resignation speech in front of many people not intimate with him or his conflicts with higher-ups. The speech was proof-positive that the club (here in Japan) is a good one because it was an excellent negative speech by a native Japanese speaker in English. I joined, but wondered why the acting president of the club ever let that speech see the light of day. If a person has a clear and seemingly just complaint about a product or service which has been ignored by the seller, then, yes, use whatever means - including innocuous forums - to reek revenge and point out the insincerity of the seller. Assuming that is not the case, Gary, just delete such a message next time.

I have been receiving stuff from you for some time now, and I have to admit that I've been wondering what kind of person you are. Somehow, the more I received from you and the more that I read had me feeling a lot more comfortable as time went by. Today I read a brief history of your life, and somehow that made me a feel even more comfortable. You're a very real person, with strengths and weaknesses like all of us human beings. The thing I like best about you however, is that you've recognized what they are, and that you deal with them. I have been telling some of my friends about you and asking them to get to know who you are, and what you are about. They have all promised to get to know you first hand, but they seem to be all afraid of getting involved with anything that might take up much of their time. I am sure that I will convince them though. One last thing; I know that I got a password for getting into the contents of a course that I paid for but I've lost it, and I cannot remember the name of the course. I'm sure I'll find it though. Continue your good work, and may God bless you and the work that you are doing. Clifford
