They Became Successful - So Why Can't You?

So - you really want to be successful, right?

I'm here to tell you an absolutely undeniable truth...

"If YOU really, truly, deeply, definitely, absolutely, fundamentally, want to do something - you'd find a way to do it."

Think about that for a moment. If "Yes, but..." thoughts bubble up into your mind, just ask them "Why" or "Why Not?" until you discover that it is really YOU that is (currently, mind you) holding YOU back.

Don't believe me? Well, let's take a look at some people that might well have been worse off than YOU currently are:

There are many thousands of people who have achieved amazing things despite their medical condition. Climbed Everest. Ran across America. Walked when doctors said they couldn't.

There are many more who were written off as 'too small', 'too slow', or 'not talented enough' who went onto become Olympic champions, or top basketball, football, soccer, or baseball stars.

There are even more than that who started with literally just the shirts on their backs who became great CEOs, property moguls, entrepreneurs, or media stars. Even with little or no money in their pockets - they STILL managed to have amazing success in their lives.

Yet even more millions of people the same age as YOU (whatever age it may be) are living exciting, stress-free lives doing what they love, despite perhaps sitting in classroom just like yours, getting a 'D' in algebra like you at age 12. Their parents were no better off than yours, in fact, they could have been your neighbors, who even had the same types of jobs that YOUR parents did.

So - why are all these people different to YOU?

Why have they succeeded where perhaps you haven't (or at least to the degree that you wish you had)?

If it didn't come down to health, talent, money, intelligence, or upbringing - then what could it be that enabled these people to become successful?

The answer is quite surprising...and also amazingly 'obvious' when you think about it.

I never really thought about it in this way until I took part in my Master Mind get-together a few weeks ago...and since that time, I have been realigning what I do in my life because of what I discovered - as it is such a fundamental 'piece' of the success puzzle.

(I've already shared it with my "It's Obvious, Stupid!" newsletter readers this month as their bonus Online Seminar. In fact, I went into great detail about how to apply it immediately in their lives. Shame you missed it if you're not a subscriber.)

So...what do YOU think it is?

The person who gets closest to the answer will get a FREE 1-on-1 coaching call with me. I don't do 1-on-1 calls any more - so this is a rare opportunity to have me pull apart your life and lead you kickin' and screamin' into your new future!

What makes people successful is that they are willing to do what all the unsuccessful people are not willing to do. They do what it takes whether they feel like it or not. Successful people have gotten over whether something is uncomfortable and get what needs to get done. Unsuccessful people focus on feeling good now and not doing what they should do.

Hi Gary It's belief - a bundle of them, sometimes called a "paradigm"! There's a big distinction between logic and emotion - so logically it's easy to see and believe that sick people can climb Everest etc., but if you fundamentally believe you're not a success, or something's difficult, you'll stumble and prove yourself right every time! There's another distinction worth making here too. It's the difference between hope and expectation. If you hope to succeed but expect to fail ... you'll fail! The solution lies in shifting your focus inwardly to all the times you have succeeded - no matter how small! You succeeded at baking a cake, learning to swim or drive ... you already have the success formula within you! Then FEEL it for the thing you're working on now. Hey ... this is a big topic - and one of my favourites, so thanks for opening it up! I have recently published a free ebook about how to shift that very core image - I don't know whether it's okay to do this, but as it's free hopefully you won't object ... so I'm pasting in the link to it here... http://www.mediamax.com/tremdon/Hosted/Key_to_success.exe Thanks, Gary as always. One word..............Passion!!!! You need to be passionate about what you are doing, this feeling will enable you to take anything in your stride and overcome any obstacles. Think about it. When you last felt passionate regarding a product or project, it is inevitable that you were successful in your endeavors. Compare to the time you just couldn't gel, or get excited with a project, time dragged, you became bored, and the results weren't the best you've seen. Confidence is a great tool too, so I'll expect your call for my coaching Gary!!!!! (Only joking!!!)

Belief! Our beliefs can stand in the way of virtually everything we do; or compel us to the kind of action that keeps us moving forward. We do indeed get in our way by any self-limiting beliefs. And... What we believe, or focus on ultimately becomes our reality.

I've read the books, listened to the tapes, did the deeds and have come up short. Have I given up? Don't bet your life on it. There is a path to happiness for us all - for some it leads to riches and triumph, to others it is the joy and challenge of walking the path. Nobody, dead or alive, can beat death. So the challenge is to do your best for as long as you breathe. Life may seem unfair and uneven...and it is. That is, however, no excuse for giving up on your dreams and goals. I'll bet the biggest complainers are the ones who have never written down an exacting and goal-driven plan.

Posted By Richard at 2007-06-18 22:38:23

i've read ALL the e-books out there, listened to motivational cds you name it i've done it. But my problem is not the 'get up and do it attitude' that's absolutely fine, it's the personal circumstances that seem to affect my move into that 'league above' so to speak. Unfortunately i have studied what i want to do for 2 years now and am currently learning copywriting (which is great) but my life seems to be full of all sorts of obstacles that limit my time (like all i guess) but for me it is the lack of capital that is hurting me at the moment and i find it really frustrating - i'm quiet heavily in debt and with that i tend to hold back as like all of us we need to priortise our financies and that ain't easy! I have a failed product and thats ok but i hope not to do the same again. So with all that going on it's tough - but i know i'll come out on top if i keep on going. and i will i beleive that there is a better way for all of us IF we're willing to look for it!

I guess most that have commented are getting to it but not really saying it. Traditionally, both Passion and Vision are what it takes to succeed. Vision gives you the path to follow and goals to set to achieve the success you are pursuing while the Passion is what keeps you moving forward on that path to success. Most successful people fail several times before becoming truely successful.Additionally, those that are succesful fail forward and learn from each failure in order to avoid going the same way twice.

Passion, Drive, and Determination. Whatever you want to do - if you have a passion in your heart and soul to do it - then nothing can stop you. You'll find the time, find the money, find the path, find the teacher, find the way. Whatever you are truly, deeply passionate about being, doing or having in your life is what you will become - that burning desire and drive and deternimation (almost at an existential level) will compell you to move mountains to achieve, experienc and have whatever it is you truly deeply want. Often times we are not *connected* to this energy, to this passion, to this inner drive that lays dormant in all of us. Without connection to this - nothing is achieved, or if it is, it is not kept. If you have not yet achieved this locking in on your dream, loading up your mind, skills, and energy with whatever necessary to achieve the dream, and then have the coaching, mentoring, support and belief to launch into your goal, then you probably aren't living of your dream.....YET! (YET = You Expect To!) Everyone has Fire in the Belly; everyone has a Big Dream - most people are disconnected to from it, unconsciously incompetent at finding, purifying it and actively ignighting it so that it becomes the engine, the unstoppable force of nature, that propells them to all their dreams. Final note - while I believe in the Law of Attraction, the Law of Focus, and in LIfe Coaching, good Therapy, and the power of postiive thinking...there remains one elemental component that is often missed.....and it is this: we each develope an interior story, an idea of self, an architecture of the possible for ourselves that tells us who we are and what is possible - and most of us are unconscious of this inner landscape and how it constellates our life path. What changes this vision? We do! :-) Thanks Gary! You rock! Namaste - Jonathan W. Logan Portland, Oregon, USA

Posted By Megsea at 2007-06-21 00:34:47

Belief in self, focusing, passion, drive, fear, determination, attitude, self-esteem, knowledge, etc., all are dependent upon on one thing. Faith. Faith in what? Like the good book says, 'faith without works is dead'. Regardless of how much you have of all of the above attributes, unless you have the 'proper' faith in your purpose and one who is guiding you and the necessary kind of works, you are unlikely to achieve any of your goals. Example, there are those who say they believe in Christ and therefore they are saved. What do they believe about Christ? Like those that say they have faith in Christ. Faith about what? The real answer is they have faith sufficient to know he is who he really says he is and that he will do exactly what he says he can do and will do exactly what he says he will do. Where does the work come in? You first have to search out what he has said about himself, what he said he can and will do and then you must act and do in such a manner (obey the commandments) that you know for a surety you are saved. If you are the internet guru god who says 'this is how to become successful', then I must find out all I can from and about you and have sufficient faith to work and do all you say to do if I really want to be successful in the internet business world. If I am not willing, because of what I have heard others say about how to do this or that, to not do exactly what you say (obey your commandments, follow your directives, etc.), my works are not sufficient to gain the reward (success). In other words if I have some doubt in your ability to produce and do not follow every step (commandment), therefore I will not be successful.

Posted By Roy at 2007-06-21 01:03:56

Focus on the outcome of achieving the goal - envision what it is like to have achieved it and what life will be like as a result of it. Keep those thoughts actiive in your mind as you then take direct steps towards that goal, not allowing other things to take you off the path.

Posted By Jasper at 2007-06-21 01:27:08

For me it's 2 things - Belief (not talking yourself into it - absolutely no doubt - you just decide to do it). You also need fire of passion for what you want to do. When you couple belief and passion you can't help but to take inspired action, and you will get results. and the side benefit - syncronicity happens!

Wow, all these people have really great answers, and none of them were right? What chance have I possibly got then? Hmm, that little voice comes again. Can there ever be any other little voice in my head? What kind of answer is Gary looking for here? How can I get that 1-on-1 coaching session? I have the It's Obvious Stupid newsletter but haven't had a chance to read it yet, and downloaded all the materials but not yet perused them. It's been chores and errands and sleep all week, so I'm not cheating. But even so, most seem to be focusing on how to reach success, like it's some distant, difficult goal. But I don't see many asking what success means to them? How do I make success reach ME? How do I take stock of my life, where I've been, where I am, where I might go, and just say, you know what's important, I have some food, some peace, some time to relax, and some good hobbies that I can do for work too. Why not just adjust my view of what success means? I know I can use money to make some things in life a bit easier, and I won't say no to truck fulls of it if they come my way. But why can't I just say that just by being here, just by being alive, I'm a success. I just kind of put it out of my mind for the moment. All the other answers here, I think they're great too, and all of it is very important. Visions, goals, directions, gratitude, belief, self-esteem, determination. But, I don't know why, but the thought just struck me, sounds like driving a race car, preparing a jet or a space shuttle, a bit hard-edged and complex, to prepare for a long journey to reach a destination as fast as possible. And if all those answers weren't what Gary was looking for, I figured, maybe it's not so much about the destination as the journey, and the journey isn't about moving ourselves to some far off place, but moving our far off thoughts closer to ourselves. Maybe I guess right, maybe not, but just by virtue of a different perspective, I think I had something of value to offer the conversation. Well, that's good enough for me for now, I feel alright. Best wishes to everyone out there seeking the unknown.

Our brain is designed to make sense of our experiences in the world and, if it's to do that, there can only be one 'reality'. This is sometimes known as sanity. Our brain achieves that by matching our outer reality to our inner reality through the process of determining what we should notice and what we should ignore according to what it perceives as meaningful. Our experiences consequently tend to confirm what we already believe. What we believe to be so becomes what we expect to be so and we act accordingly. When we make success our mental reality, it must naturally become our physical reality. Whatever actual behaviours and actions in the world at large that might require. Tiger Woods was the greatest golfer in the world in his mind long before it was true in 'real reality'. And if he hadn't have been, he wouldn't be. Getting our lives as we want them in our heads first is where the work needs to be done and it can be very hard work (tell me about it), but, once the success we desire exists as a believable reality inside our head, we have only to act it out. Something like that?

The people who succeed have an overwhelming, compelling, fire-in-the-belly desire to succeed. Why? Because to them their personal success means it will benefit others. It goes beyond themselves - one person. It includes not just them, their family and friends but the whole world. Personal success means success for all humanity. Think about it, about all the great achievers of the world; Edison, Ford, Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, The Wright Brothers etc. They all had a great vision for success yet we, the people living today, us, we are benefitting from their success. So your desire for success MUST include others. Think BIG. Think Global. Include everyone. With a vision that compelling you will succeed.

If you step outside of your comfort zone you will be struck by lightning on the spot. Not real lightning but an external force that exerts a mental pressure that makes you feel uncomfortable. If some one gave you a 100% guarantee that if you did this one thing you would be a millionaire, chances are you would tell yourself this must be a hoax and never try it. Why is it a hoax? It must be a hoax because I would have to come out of my comfort zone to try this one thing that might make me a millionaire. Funny how that works.

To succeed, one must have a very strong "why" one wants the success.

Following a SIMPLE format.. or blueprint for success. Instead of trying to recreate a process... they follow the success of those who have come before them.

I think it is because people lack in motivation. Motivation keeps people going for them to become successful. People believe that they are not good enough to achieve for them to reach success. The reason why I think this is because I motivated myself to keep going with my future plan and guess what yesterday I did my very first talk in a seminar in newfoundland on turning your life around and people came to me after and told me how i changed their ways of thinking which is a similar situation which Gary Vurnum himself e-mailed everyone I know what it feels like and it really feels good.

It seems as if the keys to success are using the K.I.S.S. method (keep it stupidly simple) and action. Information overload, due to our desire to be "educated" and our want to not make mistakes, appears to be the excuse or the complicating factor. Gary, thank you for sending the information to help simplify our thoughts, goals and life.

I believe they have a "Fire in the belly"...it's a do or don't do attitude. They have a belief that they can and do not waiver from their beliefs. A complete unshakeable belief!

Inspiration

Anything can be in one persons head for what he or she "thinks" is obvious for success. The nuts and bolts of any success irregardless of our background, color, or education is smply feeling like one can do what he or she sets her mind to it. Most people who are successful were not trying to be successful, they discovered they wanted to make something better, be normal again, or just played with an idea but it all imerged from the feeling of "I can do this". I hope we all find that thing that niche the hides the secret that will make our life better and at the same time add some divedends to the bottm line

A man is his best friend or worst enemy, its all about desire from the inside. If one could use the inner eye to see the future of his or her activities, then there will be a focus on the end result. The focus on the result will result in passion and dedication that will make him excel

I think to succeed and achieve ones goals, one should be focussed on his or her goals and pursue it with a single-point determination.

Before you can do anything to improve your life, the one thing you must do is to really get to know yourself. We all think we know who we are, but to REALLY know ourselves, we have to look back at our past and see what past events have made us into who we are now - What gave us the fears we have? Who "programmed" us into believing we can never be successful? etc... You can only make changes to things if you know what it is that needs to be changed.
