Guilt is such an unproductive thing!
I feel guilty because I working on my PC instead of sitting watching TV with my family.
Yet...
I feel guilty when I'm watching TV with my family that I should be working.
It's one of those perils of working from home - it becomes very difficult to 'switch off'.
But...I made an interesting discovery the other day.
I realised that I shouldn't be worrying about one thing whilst doing another.
Why?
Well...I can hardly focus on being a good dad and husband if my mind is elsewhere...and not very focused on my work if I'm worry about upsetting Lesley.
Ever feel like that sometimes?
So - I have an idea.
Would you like to join me in 'National Focus Day"? (OK - I made it up!)
When is it? Well...it's the day after you first read this...
Here's what we're going to do.
On National Focus Day we're going to be totally focused on:
1) Each task we do at work without being sidetracked by gossip.
2) Reading (or listening to) something that will improve our lives on the way to and from work.
3) Our spouse (or parents etc) when we first get in from work - and don't just moan about what a miserable day we've had.
4) Our children - and really take an interest in what they are doing.
5) Doing absolutely nothing in particular for the last hour or two of our day as a reward for staying so focused during the rest of the day.
6) Reviewing what we have achieved during the day in the last five minutes before we go to sleep.
So - are you going to join me in 'celebrating' National Focus Day?
Who knows - if it works well enough for me tomorrow - then I might extend it to a week...or a year...
You'll never know unless you try it!
Let me know how you get on, won't you?
