Are you playing not to lose...or are you playing to win?
This thought crossed my mind as I wandered out of a football (OK - soccer) match last night where my local team (Crystal Palace FC) were once again beaten at home.
It is a well-known 'secret' that our manager would rather our side didn't concede a goal than going out to score ourselves. His philosophy is that - if the other team don't score - we won't lose. Almost every supporter that I have ever talked to would rather it was - unless we score - we're not going to win!
So - with which 'tactic' are you playing this game called Life?
Are you accepting what you have got because you are worried about the consequences of taking a chance...or are you focused on moving your life forward because you know that, unless you make some effort to change, nothing is going happen?
Do you gladly settle for an 'unfulfilled' life because you are too concerned with possibly losing what you have now?
Do you fail to push yourself harder when you know you should - just because you think that you might fail?
Do you avoid challenges because you don't think that you would deserve the 'rewards' from their completion?
Play to win - and whatever happens - you will certainly benefit from trying. If you are happy to plod through life without achieving much then that's fine - if it's what you really want. But...if you want a life that can be both challenging and rewarding - then you must focus your energies on getting those 'goals'.
You will fail on the way - but it's the only way to learn how to win. Go for the 'win' - life is certainly more dull without it!
